FFMI Calculator
How close are you to your genetic limit?
Fat-Free Mass Index measures how much muscle you carry for your height. Enter your stats and see where you rank, including next to the legends.
How do you compare?
Estimates from each champion's reported contest height, weight and body fat. For fun and perspective, not exact science.
| Physique | Era | Muscularity | FFMI |
|---|
What your FFMI means
| FFMI | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Under 18 | Below average muscle mass |
| 18 – 20 | Average |
| 20 – 22 | Clearly trained |
| 22 – 23 | Excellent |
| 23 – 25 | Approaching the natural limit |
| 25+ | Rare without drugs (a 1995 study of lifters set the natural cutoff around 25) |
The calculator uses the normalized formula: FFMI = lean mass (kg) ÷ height² (m) + 6.1 × (1.8 − height). Your result is only as accurate as your body fat number. A 5% error in body fat moves FFMI by about 1 point.
